Information, Medium, and Society: Journal of Publishing Studies examines the nature and forms of media and information as expressed through publishing practices. Publishing is understood as a distinctive mode of social knowledge and cultural production. The journal provides a forum for sustained inquiry into the theory and practice of scholarly communication, information science, and trade, technical, and academic publishing. Its scope is both retrospective—documenting historical and contemporary practices—and prospective, analyzing emerging technologies and business processes that will shape the future of publishing. Serving scholars, publishing professionals, librarians, collection managers, and media practitioners, the journal addresses the challenges and opportunities of publishing in the digital age, with a shared commitment to guiding change in both industry and society.
