Digitalization in the Performing Arts Curriculum: Educational Practices and Creativity in Music and Drama

Abstract

This qualitative research examines the technological applications used in the performing arts, focusing on the impact of educational technology on pedagogical methods and contemporary societal trends based on the intersection of digital and arts pedagogy. The purpose of the study was to understand the technological influence on the performing arts through the individualized perspectives and experiences of select learners and instructors. The case study looked at the impact of technology and digital pedagogical approaches through one-on-one interviews. The four participants (n = 4) included two students, a drama teacher, and a music teacher. The research examined artistic equality and the digital integration of technology in arts education systems, analyzing its impact on students’ creativity. Based on the interviews, the qualitative analysis enabled the identification of the following themes: digital accessibility, equality and inequality in the arts, educational innovation, and technological opportunities. The results (1) showed the various functions of arts-related technology applications; (2) displayed existing advantages and disadvantages of using technology in the arts education; (3) identified the optimal crossover points between arts pedagogy methods used in music and drama classrooms and technology.
