Abstract
This colloquium presents and discusses the arts-based research project Intergroup Relations and Local Encounters – Immigrant and Finnish Youths’ Perceptions of Each Other, Their Lives, and Their Futures in Multicultural Savo, conducted in Finland. The project involves young people aged 13–19, including Finnish, Middle Eastern and Ukrainian youth. They explored questions related to the project’s theme through art-based activities inspired by participatory and co-research approaches, such as photography, collage, drawing, and painting. Arts-based workshops formed the core of the project, providing spaces for young people from different backgrounds to express themselves and to transcend divisions based on language and cultural differences. In addition to presenting findings from four studies within the project, the colloquium introduces an arts-based exhibition developed as a means of disseminating research findings and fostering dialogue with the community. The presentations included in the colloquium are: 1. Creative Encounters: Arts-Based Workshops in Research with Youth from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds (Presenters: Jari Martikainen & Mari Puttonen); 2. Parallel Realities in a Common Space – How Finnish, Middle Eastern, and Ukrainian Youth Make Sense of Important Places (Presenter: Hadi Farahani); 3.
