Abstract
Art offers individuals a means of expression that goes beyond words. Within the field of art therapy, this concept is particularly relevant when considering how creative practices can support, and improve, emotional and psychological growth. More specifically, self-portraiture offers a powerful opportunity for individuals to explore, represent, and reflect on their sense of identity. Additionally, self-portraiture can be seen as a dynamic form of self-expression by inviting individuals to utilize a variety of media to assemble fragmented pieces of their internal world into a visual narrative. In recent years, research has increasingly highlighted the therapeutic potential of these practices, particularly in their ability to enhance self-esteem. This research study focuses on the effects that self-portraiture has on self-esteem.
