The Sky as a Mirror of the Soul: A Bridge between Physics and Metaphysics

Abstract

The project “The Sky as a Mirror of the Soul” is an interdisciplinary approach based on profound observation of the dynamic phenomena of the sky. This observation gives rise to a complexity of questions on the emotional effect of colours, inspiring creativity and motivating philosophical questions on human experience. The project starts with Skyscape, which refers to the observation of the ever-changing phenomenon of the sky. The next phase, Skychology, explores the psychological benefits of observing the sky, including experiences of awe, mindfulness, and a greater connection to nature. Furthermore, the Psychology of Color, based on Goethe’s insights, highlights how different colours can influence mood, behavior, and perception. The Creative phase encompasses various artistic endeavors, including photography, and collaging, all inspired by my deep connection to skyscapes. In the Reflection phase, I learned that the project serves as a bridge between physics (external reality) and metaphysics (inner experience). It links natural phenomena with personal experiences and raises philosophical questions about perception, consciousness, and meaning. The project culminates in an exhibition featuring a series of collages that depict the ever-changing phenomenon of the sky. My main goal for this project is to encourage viewers to see the sky not only as a physical phenomenon but also as a deeply personal and symbolic experience. I hope to inspire them to reflect on how their inner worlds are mirrored in the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
