Teaching Medieval European History with Art and Artistic Artifacts

Abstract

This poster highlights the use of art and artistic artifacts in the teaching of medieval European history. To identify works of art for secondary instruction, original research was conducted in international museums and libraries in person and/or online. Inquiry-based methods for teaching, including open-ended questions on the artwork, are presented. Participants will consider how the convergence of diverse people in medieval Europe affected art and culture.
