Stories from Home - the Environmental Implications of Development to the Community and the People: Writing Stories Through the Lens of Environmental Fiction

Abstract

This paper explores the local narratives, experiences, and knowledge of oral traditions, aiming to engage readers in the subtle nuances of these lived experiences through storytelling. The paper seeks to unravel the oral traditions of the people of Bansalan, Davao del Sur, Philippines, thus fostering a deeper appreciation and awareness of their cultural practices, expressions, and lived experiences. Additionally, the paper delves into the spectrum of different environmental problems, primarily focusing on the intervention of human actions on the environment and how these actions have resulted in a wide array of challenges. The paper cultivates a sense of responsibility and accountability toward the people as stewards of the environment. The knowledge embedded in this paper can be utilized to expand the evolving discourse of eco-literature and eco-criticism.
