Workforce Diversity and Organizational Innovativeness in the Banking Sector: The Role of Employee Engagement as a Mediator

Abstract

The field of business has drastically revolutionized itself with regard to diversification of employees. To promote equality, justice, fairness and justice in organizations, work force diversity is considered as a key strategic tool. Work force diversity is referred as managing all similarities and dissimilarities in gender, age, race, ethnicity, interest, personal attributes and culture. Transforming from traditional banking practices to a tech-based system, banking sector faces high competition in customer retention. In a country like India with high level of diversity with regard to religion, caste, languages culture, ethnicity and socio-economic status, it is peremptory for the banking sector to contemplate on workforce diversity to meet the needs of diverse customers. Product and service innovation and maintaining an engaged workforce is also crucial for banking industry to survive and be resilient in this highly competitive era. Thus the study explores the complex interrelationship between workforce diversity, employee engagement and organizational innovativeness among private banking sector employees in Karnataka. Using structured questionnaire, data was collected from 258 banking employees. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling using AMOS 20. The study reveals that employee engagement partially mediates the relation between workforce diversity and organizational innovativeness.
