Beyond The Green Book: Tracing the Black American Journey Through Travel

Abstract

For decades, American Blacks have had to adjust to what was made available to them, which, in terms of travel, often meant subpar conditions and treatment. Today, companies must cater to Black tourists’ needs and desires to maximize safety and provide applicable amenities and activities. This study examines the impact of race and the evolution of the African American tourist experience and, finally, provides recommendations for how the modern hospitality market should productively respond.
