Abstract
The right to education unfolds in the provision of quality, equitable and inclusive learning opportunities for all, regardless of individual differences. Such a framework aims at embracing diversity and fostering learner engagement through personalised solutions and context-aware approaches. As underlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006) and UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015), these trajectories require the adoption of a multidimensional perspective that addresses inclusion through a systemic approach for organisations and institutions. In recent years, the growing number of students with disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (SpLDs) enrolled in higher education courses led universities to develop a stronger awareness towards such topics, reinforcing their commitment towards developing concrete solutions to ensure inclusive processes. In this context, this contribution presents the theoretical background, methods, practical implications and results of the “Inclusion 3.0” Project, promoted by University of Macerata as a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing inclusive practices in university settings, addressing the challenges of providing an inclusive university for all. Its key objectives and strategic interventions include co-designing accessible learning experiences, fostering self-advocacy, promoting awareness-raising events, and developing inclusive educational tools for students with disabilities and SpLDs. By integrating innovation and social impact, the Project represents an insightful case study to redefine the role of universities as relevant and valuable life contexts that can create meaningful participation pathways for all students across communities, welcoming their diversity.
