Equity Policy as Non-Performative: An Investigation into Canadian Higher Education Policies on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Abstract

This research investigates the enactment of the 2015 and 2017 Canadian University principles on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization (EDID). Following several initiatives by the publication of Universities Canada and the Canadian government’s Action Plan on Equity, Diversity and inclusion for research funding and Canada Research Chair positions, Canadian universities are increasingly focusing on developing and enacting policies related to EDID (Tamtik & Guenter, 2019). The study focuses on a critical policy analysis EDID policy enactment in 8 universities across Canada (4 large research intensive and 4 mid-size universities).
