Abstract
This paper focuses on artist residencies in Ireland as an initiative to advance transcultural connections between Ireland and other countries throughout the world but with a specific focus on artists from the United States who have benefited from these residencies. How do these residencies advance a more nuanced understanding of Irish culture? To what extent do these residencies provide lasting relationships that position Ireland as a significant art center in the global art world? The paper takes an historical approach, considering residencies from the early twentieth century to the present.
