Change Matters: Imperatives for Transformation in Higher Norwegian Creative Education

Abstract

This paper examines the urgent need for transformation in Norwegian higher creative education amid unprecedented technological disruption and shifting industry expectations. Drawing on policy analysis, literature review, and empirical research including expert interviews with industry leaders and educators, we identify critical gaps between current educational approaches and emerging professional realities. Our findings reveal that while Norwegian creative education maintains distinctive strengths in sustainability and ethical frameworks, it requires significant evolution in digital competencies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and industry alignment. The research highlights promising pedagogical innovations, particularly experiential learning models like escape room pedagogy, that effectively develop adaptive thinking and collaborative problem-solving. We contextualize Norway’s position within European higher education trends, offering comparative insights that inform our recommendations for curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and policy alignment. This paper contributes to ongoing discourse on educational transformation by providing evidence-based strategies for developing resilient, future-ready graduates capable of navigating increasingly complex creative industries shaped by artificial intelligence and automation.
