AI’s Impact on Creation and Community

Abstract

In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, artificial intelligence is reshaping not only how we create and consume art and literature but also how we imagine and sustain communities of readers, writers, and learners. This panel, drawn from the forthcoming volume Sentient Books: AI’s Impact on Creation, examines the humanities’ vital role in interrogating and guiding these transformations. If the traditional concept of community was often tied to shared geography, language, or cultural heritage, the age of AI demands new frameworks for belonging and participation, frameworks that extend beyond borders, both physical and conceptual. By bringing together scholars from literature, pedagogy, linguistics, history and cultural studies, the panel explores how AI challenges and redefines key humanistic values: authorship, authenticity, intellectual agency, and the ethics of knowledge production.
