Socio-Economic Perceptions, Resilience, and Attitudes Toward Social Change in Sicily: Exploring the Role of Regional Identity, Justice Beliefs, and Intergenerational Influence

This research explores the psychological factors influencing Sicilian attitudes toward socio-economic development, justice, and social change. Through seven in-depth interviews, the study examines perceptions of optimism, fatalism, and resilience in response to regional challenges such as unemployment, historical trauma, and mafia influence. Key themes include civic engagement, intergenerational differences, and beliefs about fairness and mobility. Findings highlight the role of justice perceptions, economic disillusionment, and institutional trust in shaping public attitudes toward governance and activism. The study provides insights into how regional identity and historical narratives influence the willingness of Sicilians to engage in social transformation.
