Abstract
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational systems and broader society presents both unprecedented opportunities and complex ethical challenges. This paper critically examines the multifaceted roles of AI through the lenses of reliability, accountability, transparency —pillars essential to building trust and equity in AI-driven environments. In education, AI promises personalized learning, automated assessments, and administrative efficiency; however, questions remain about the dependability of these systems across diverse learner populations and contexts. Simultaneously, societal deployment of AI—ranging from hiring algorithms to social media moderation—raises concerns about opaque decision-making processes, the dilution of human responsibility, and the propagation of systemic biases. Through an interdisciplinary analysis combining case studies, policy reviews, and empirical findings, this paper highlights the urgent need for robust governance frameworks that prioritize ethical design, inclusive data practices, and meaningful stakeholder involvement. Ultimately, the paper argues for a more human-centered AI paradigm, one that aligns technological advancement with democratic values and social justice.
