Teaching and Practicing Life-Review: An Introspective Developmental Intervention for Elderly Individuals

Abstract

The clinical efficacy of life review as a therapeutic tool is well documented in most literature on counseling and psychotherapy. However, very little has been written on how to train counselors and other helpers on the use of life-review in counseling practice. This paper provides an overview of the use of life-review in counseling. Specifically, the study highlights the process of teaching counselors-in-training the use of life-review in counseling practice. Analysis of data collected from teaching and practice of Life Review sessions in a graduate course Counseling and Lifespan Development affirms the relevance preparing professional counselors-in-training who will be utilizing Life Review sessions apply skill in counseling and wellness of elderly individuals.
