Promoting Active Aging through Interpersonal Relationships: A Case Study of the Elderly in Cross River State, Nigeria

Abstract

This paper explores the challenges elderly people face as they progress in life. in Cross River State, Nigeria> We value our Elders so much that it takes interpersonal relationship to keep them growing stronger and active all-round the year. A survey method was adopted for the study and the sample size of five hundred was drawn from a population of one thousand two hundred and thirty pensioners from the study area. The instrument used for data collection was a thirty-five-item questionnaire titled Promoting Active Aging among the elderly. Data was collected and analyzed using the independent t- test, Pearson Product Moment and the One-way analysis of Variance. The results of analysis showed that a positive active aging is possible through interpersonal relationship. One of the recommendations was that government as well as families should create an interactive forum regularly to eliminate stagnation and improve on personal wellbeing.
