Abstract
This work is a bibliographical critique of SDG-tourism discourse through the lens of World Systems Theory. Exploring of the likelihood of success of the Sustainable Development Goals, from the perspective of the tourism industry in the Global South, based on a bibliographical systematic review of literature in Spanish, English, and Japanese. The review concluded that due to its current precarising, highly extractive nature and its subjacent promotion of unequal relations, tourism is not suited for the pursuit of the SDGs in the Global South. Recommendations regarding this industry were made, summarized by the idea that the leisure of some cannot be achieved at the cost of the well-being of others and that development should be bridled by the circumstances of each host area.
