Safety Modernization in the Digital Age: Employing Safety Technology to Protect Construction Professionals

Abstract

This study examines the human and systemic factors that facilitate the adoption of technology in enhancing health, wellness, and safety training. The results suggest that building experts should incorporate feasible technological modifications to promote health and wellness (Rasendran & Ahmad, 2021). This study analyzes the role of leadership in the construction sector in facilitating transformation to reshape the industry’s organizational culture. The study examines the importance of construction businesses to prioritize employee safety for their workforce and the broader community. The study examines the effects of implementing the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970. OSHA has instigated substantial transformations in US workplaces, playing a crucial role in reducing work-related fatalities, injuries, and diseases. Consequently, millions of employees sustain injuries annually, with thousands dying (OSHA, 2023). OSHA mandates modernization to diminish these figures. Modernizing safety requires an updated standard-setting procedure, increased inspector presence, enhanced civil and criminal penalties, comprehensive coverage for all employees, and improved safeguards for whistleblowers. To mitigate work-related accidents and illnesses, it is essential to reassess the significance of worker safety (Gallagher, 2020). The challenges posed by COVID-19 and its impact on mental health underscore the need to revise OSHA regulations and integrate technology into health, safety, and wellness training. This study examines the necessary enhancements for modernizing OSHA safety training. The study outlines techniques to cultivate an organizational culture that prioritizes safety culture and enhances the well-being, health, and safety of construction professionals.
