Abstract
Cinema has lured people both with fashion and fact. Whatever is portrayed on screen it will have its repercussions in the lives of the spectators. However, in the present scenario movies have started popularizing violence through its narratives giving the spectators targetting the Gen ‘Z’ population making it inevitable to even celebrate birthday parties without inflicting violence on each other. The recent movies like Avesham ,RDX and Pani have established the new genre that appeases particularly the youth. This paper zeroes in on the strategic changes that have led to the emergence of narratives that depicts violence as a major theme in select movies reading it in the light of Michael Foucault’s power theory and film theories that consider the discourse of cinema as a norm that have slowly changed from being verbally abusive to being physically assaulting characters through narratives that have infiltrated into the psyche of youth making them feel violence is power and a normative style of modern Malayalam cinema. This recurring pattern will soon change the pattern of Malayalam cinema which had once given more importance to the depiction of relationships rather than sheer violence and vengence. A content analysis of the selected movies studies the pattern change that has occurred over the years and the reason for this change also delving upon the repercussions it has brought about in the society since being screened.
