Abstract
Foreign direct investment is fundamental to leveraging a country’s economic growth. To attract and secure foreign direct investment, the investee must develop effective strategies to secure the investment funds. Similarly, investors must develop their strategies to ensure a seamless foreign direct investment experience, thereby generating a return on investment. Previous research defines tactics as the coherent and synchronised actions to achieve goals and objectives. Therefore, this research examines the business communication tactics used to secure foreign direct investment from actors involved, such as investors, investees, and investment liaisons. General System Theory (GST) and Actor-Network Theory (ANT) are employed to understand the existing interactions and communication translations between actors involved in foreign direct investment ecosystems. GST examines how systems interact and react to internal and external stimuli. ANT observes the relationship between actors in establishing investment alliances through communication translations. To examine the current business and communication tactics, this research uses a qualitative approach, namely, semi-structured interviews. The results of this research provide additional dimensions for structuring business and communication tactics to leverage opportunities for securing foreign direct investment. Both investors and investees will benefit from the tactical insights derived from this research.
