Abstract
This paper focuses on my current PhD research project which investigates the impact of Holden, Ford and Australian motorsport on Australian sports fandom and sporting culture. Specifically, this study focuses on participant interactions with the Ford and Holden brands and to what extent these brands, automotive culture and Australian motorsport culture has had on their lives. This study also investigates the differences in experiences between participants of differing generations and gender identities in this traditionally male-dominated domain. Additionally, the potential for the Holden vs Ford rivalry to transition into alternate rivalries will be investigated after the discontinuation of Holden in 2020. Data has been collected via one-on-one interviews with 40 motorsport community members aged between 18-75 and thematic analysis has been used to identify themes. The overall findings, the themes and my overall progress in my PhD are showcased.
