Abstract
This study explores how individual interest predicts study engagement in Filipino recreational games-based physical education among university students in the Philippines. Guided by Roure’s tripartite model, individual interest was conceptualized through three dimensions: positive affect and willingness to reengage (PAWR), stored utility value (SUV), and stored attainment value and knowledge-seeking intentions (SAVKSI). A total of 361 valid responses were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Findings reveal that individual interest significantly explained nearly half the variance in study engagement. Though all three components were significant predictors, SAVKSI emerged as the strongest contributor, underscoring the role of internalized goals and knowledge-oriented motivations. These results affirm the theoretical utility of the tripartite model and highlight the importance of culturally relevant and meaning-driven physical education experiences. Implications for curriculum development, student motivation, and pedagogical design in movement-based education are discussed.
