Abstract
The seventeenth United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), Partnerships for the Goals, seeks to enhance implementation efforts and revitalize global cooperation for sustainable development. Achieving this goal is crucial, as it facilitates the realization of the other sixteen SDGs. This study focuses on assessing the effectiveness of multi-stakeholder partnerships (SDG 17) in advancing gender equality (SDG 5) by promoting the role of women in rural Spain. A multiple case study approach was employed, utilizing desk research and semi-structured interviews for data collection. The research was conducted in Almonacid de Zorita, a municipality in the province of Guadalajara, central Spain. This study offers a comprehensive stakeholder analysis, incorporating diverse perspectives on the role of women in rural Spanish communities. Many rural areas in Spain are experiencing depopulation and a decline in socio-economic activity, a trend that, if unaddressed, could lead to the abandonment of villages. Adopting a multi-stakeholder perspective (aligned with SDG 17) provided a holistic understanding of how empowering women in these regions can serve as a catalyst for revitalization. Additionally, this approach allowed for an in-depth evaluation of the broader social benefits that arise from collaborative efforts in addressing gender-related challenges in rural areas.
