New Bodies Taking Shape: Stress Doesn't Really Go with My Outfit

Abstract

We offer a lecture performance that brings communities together through a shared Look Therapy session. This session will explore healing materials like cherry stones and the concept of the SKIN CHEMISE, a textile that fuses body and fabric. Inspired by the research project HEALING FASHION FOR A NEW IMAGE OF BEING and our holistic approach to education, this performance will features contributions from BA/MA Fashion Design students and present practical field research by Prof. Priska Morger and Eva Katherina Bühler. The concept plays with the dual meaning of “Look”—both as a directed gaze and as the creation of appearance. We will engage in this performative experience, encouraging viewers to observe closely and consider the role of textiles in healing, new health. The session will introduce Look Therapy - TEXTILE BODIES ON NEW DISPLAYS, exloring healing through textile design and artistic expression. We will also incorporate Somatic Education Eutony, a trauma-informed art and design practice, where the body is used to experience healing through movement and awareness. Eutony techniques, which focus on tension and release, help participants develop greater physical awareness, enhancing their ability to express themselves through drawing. This performance in Amsterdam will engage the body, mind, and design in a new approach to textile healing.
