Digital Diets - Artificial Intelligence, Nervous System Resilience, and the Future of Wellness Communication: How Technology Shapes Health Behaviors and What We Can Do About It

Abstract

This presentation explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital media environments shape health literacy, stress responses, and wellness behaviors in modern society. Just as nutrition affects the physical body, the “digital diets” individuals consume daily impact both the nervous system and psychological wellbeing. This work addresses the risks and opportunities of AI-driven health communication, with a particular focus on reducing overwhelm and fostering discernment in health decision-making. The objective of this research-based intervention is to empower health professionals, educators, and community leaders to harness AI responsibly while minimizing the physiological and psychological stress caused by constant digital input. The relevance of this work lies in its ability to bridge interdisciplinary health sciences with public health education, addressing both individual resilience and systemic communication challenges. Positioned at the intersection of psychology, wellness, and digital communication, this presentation uses a practice-based methodology. Interactive teaching strategies, case examples, and guided nervous system regulation exercises are combined to demonstrate the effectiveness of the intervention. Participants will be introduced to frameworks that reduce information overload, strengthen health literacy, and align AI use with culturally sensitive, values-based approaches to wellness. Outcomes of this intervention include an increased awareness of the stress responses triggered by AI-driven environments, improved ability to evaluate health information, and adoption of practical systems that promote resilience. The conclusion highlights the implications for future public health communication: sustainable strategies for integrating technology with human connection, ensuring healthier societies in the digital age.
