Abstract

La alarmante situación del planeta, donde la contaminación del agua nos induce a reflexionar sobre la insana relación que tenemos con ella, ha dado pie a un estudio que pretende subrayar la importancia del arte a la hora de denunciar una preocupante realidad que afecta a todos los seres humanos. Desde siempre, el arte ha sido un poderoso vehículo para expresar descontentos, denunciar injusticias y transmitir mensajes de distintas maneras. América Latina, por ejemplo, ha sido teatro de un importante movimiento artístico: el artivismo. Aunque su desarrollo no se relaciona con un solo país, México ha sido indudablemente uno de los lugares donde dicha tendencia tuvo un gran éxito. El objetivo de este trabajo es demostrar cómo el artivismo, en su versión más actual, continúa vigente en el territorio mexicano y cómo de importante es su función a la hora de realizar denuncias ambientales. A través del análisis de las obras de tres artistas mexicanos contemporáneos, que trabajan activamente y logran de formas muy distintas acercar a su público a una tremenda verdad, el espectador logra comprender el peligro por el cual están pasando las aguas de nuestro planeta. Gracias a los trabajos de César Martínez, Gilberto Esparza y Hugo Gallegos comienza un viaje inmersivo entre un extenso grafiti, un proyecto pedagógico donde el arte encuentra la tecnología para generar estructuras que contribuyen a la regeneración de la barrera coralina y una serie de espectaculares pinturas al óleo que asombran por su belleza. [The alarming situation of the planet, where water pollution induces us to reflect on the unhealthy relationship we have with it, has given rise to a study that aims to underline the importance of art in denouncing a worrying reality that affects all human beings. Since ancient times, art has served as a powerful vehicle to express discontent, expose injustices, and convey messages in diverse ways. Latin America, for example, has been the stage for a significant artistic movement: artivism. Although its development is not confined to a single country, Mexico has undoubtedly been one of the places where this trend achieved great resonance. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate how artivism, in its most current form, remains active in the Mexican context and how crucial its role is in raising awareness of environmental issues. Through the analysis of the works of three contemporary Mexican artists, who employ very different approaches to bring their audiences closer to an unsettling truth, viewers are able to grasp the severity of the threats currently facing the planet’s waters. Thanks to the works of César Martínez, Gilberto Esparza, and Hugo Gallegos, an immersive journey unfolds across an expansive graffiti piece, a pedagogical project in which art merges with technology to generate structures that contribute to the regeneration of coral reefs, and a series of spectacular oil paintings that stand out for their striking beauty].
