Behind the Apron: How White Christian Nationalism Fuels the Trad Wife Movement

Abstract

This research project investigates the “Traditional wife” or “Trad Wife” phenomenon, focusing on homemaking roles through the lens of Gender, Race, and White Christian Nationalism. In today’s digital age, social media has a significant impact on societal norms, and this study examines how platforms such as TikTok and Instagram play a huge role in normalizing and romanticizing a revival of conventional gender expectations that is tied to nationalism, religious identity, and racial privilege. When it comes to the dynamics of this investigation, interviews were conducted with members of the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) community, which includes faculty, students, and traditional wives themselves.
