Abstract
This presentation outlines the first year of an innovative program to prepare teacher candidates to meet the needs of P-12 learners of the future by teaching with AI and emerging technologies with a focus on a human centered approach and ethical use. The faculty at University of North Georgia collaborated to systematically integrate the use of AI and emerging technologies into an online teacher preparation program in order to prepare teacher candidates to teach in classrooms that do not yet exist. If we are going to prepare the workforce of the future, we must prepare the teachers of the future now. During the initial planning and course construction phase, faculty grappled with complex issues of ethics, human centered approach, reinforcement of soft skills, and applicability for both teacher candidate and their P-12 students. The resulting product is the ETTA (Emerging Technology Teaching Academy). This study focuses on pedagogical design, best practices, and highlight both challenges and successes during our first year of implementation. Data collected during the year initial year of implementation is available for review and discussion.
