Abstract
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming museum education, presenting both significant opportunities and critical challenges. Generative AI technologies, capable of mimicking renowned artistic styles and creating original works, offer unprecedented tools for creative exploration and accessibility. However, they also raise ethical concerns, such as copyright infringement, the erosion of originality, and the risk of student-created works being co-opted as training data for AI models. These issues challenge the core values of creativity, authenticity, and ethical responsibility that underpin museum education. Museums have long served as vital educational spaces, fostering creativity and critical thinking while encouraging societal engagement. In an AI-driven era, their role must adapt to new realities, addressing both the potential and pitfalls of these transformative technologies. While AI can democratize access to art and foster new forms of creative expression, it can also perpetuate societal inequities and diminish the value of human artistry. As stewards of cultural heritage and educators, museums are uniquely positioned to navigate this complex landscape and redefine their educational mission. This proposal explores the dual impact of AI on museum education and its implications for fostering social engagement. It aims to develop a framework that integrates AI into educational programs responsibly while preserving the core values of human creativity and ethical accountability. By exploring the integration of AI tools, ethical safeguards, and social initiatives, it offers a path forward that aligns with the mission of museums as cultural and educational institutions.
