Update: Thoughts on Political Rhetoric About Education

I came across a quote from U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona:
"Public education is the great equalizer. The foundation of economic opportunity in our country. And the bedrock of our democracy."

I totally agree that education is super important and should give everyone a fair shot at success. But while this sounds great, I feel like it’s missing a lot of the details. Saying that education is the answer to inequality is one thing, but how do we make it work for everyone?

There are real problems in schools today, like underfunding, lack of resources, and too few teachers. Cardona’s statement gives a big idea, but it doesn’t talk about how to fix these issues or what steps we need to take to make sure every student gets the education they deserve.

So while I agree with the vision, I just wish there was more talk about the practical steps needed to make it a reality for all kids.
