Education first: A challenging year for the Department of Education in the Philippines

Senator Ping Lacson emphasizes that the Philippine government should prioritize increasing the education budget for the Department of Education (DepEd), allocating funds on top of other agencies. He is doin an initiative called "Edukasyon Plus", which aims to give free tution fees, 5,000PHP monthly allowance, and government internship program for senior high school students. He wanted to change the perspective and mindset of every Filipino youth who are trapped in a cycle, become drop out of high school to help their families and continued education isn't one of their options. He believes that Filipinos, as the country's future, deserve proper education that imparts skills which are globally competitive and relevant to our times. Drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela, Lacson highlights that education's power extends beyond developing economic skills; it also fosters nation-building and reconciliation, ultimately strengthening the unity and progress of the Filipino people.
