New Learning MOOC’s Updates
"The education system has failed the Filipino children."
Pres. Ferdinand Marcos said on the Basic Education Report 2023 that the system didn't benefit the Filipino children. He vowed his commitment to improve the education sector. He further said, "Let's not keep failing them anymore, otherwise we will not allow them to become the great Filipinos that we know they can be."
I got Mr. President's point and I couldn't agree more to his remark that every Filipino deserves to maximize their potential through quality education. That being said, I know the fact also that it's hard to revive the system nor the students' learning loss because of many factors. In 2025, budget is still the problem. Vice President Sarah Duterte even mentioned on the said event the challenges the Dept of Education was facing. Infrastructure, lack of resources are just some of the main problems. Until now, the Filipino children are still suppressed from good and quality education because of the personal interest of many government officials in the country.
Based on the report, they reiterated and assured that they will focus on building resilient classrooms and give priority to using digital classroom.I know they have built and continue building more up to this day. I know as well that they are trying to digitize classrooms for better teaching and learning. The thing is, those are not only the main problems that the system is facing. Our teachers are also neglected in terms of salary, benefits, and work-life balance. They are experiencing work overload that results to burnout. Our teachers need assistants to help them do extra curricular activities. Our schools need administrative aides who are responsible for admin works. I am currently teaching overseas and I can see the huge difference their system has compared to ours. It's time to give our teachers what they really deserve, otherwise we will soon lose them because people who are empty cannot fill others' cup.

My feelings about this matter are primarily disappointment, as he is addressing teachers and educators. The responsibility for failing learners should not rest solely with the teachers; the address should focus on the responsibilities of everyone in society. Teachers strive for every student to become educated, successful, and productive members of society, even though their salaries are low and benefits are often delayed. Many classrooms are not suitable for learning, lacking essentials like restrooms, sufficient ventilation, and adequate resources.
Another is the teaching materials , DepEd distributed learning activity sheets , how much budget does its cost ? but ,it was not fully utilized because LAS depends on the learners progress , learners level etc .
However, teachers require support to achieve these goals. Unfortunately, progress is very slow, and implementation often takes years without any significant change. When ? How will it happen? Teachers continue to call for reform.
