Embracing Didactic Pedagogy in the Modern Era

Didactic is clearly a teacher-centered pedagogy. This method involves structured lessons, clear goals, and a focus on factual knowledge. The teacher is solely the giver of information in the class.

I am currently teaching in a kindergarten in Hong Kong and I have several takeaways since I've started working here. Teachers, yes that includes me, still practice didactic method in our respective classes. This method is appropriate for large group instruction for consistency and clarity. Young learners need demonstrations and repetitive instructions because they tend to get playful, thus didactic method is really useful.

With the numbers of benefit we could all benefit from this pedagogy, it is sometimes inappropriate because of few reasons. Firstly, it's approach the one-size-fits-all limits the diverse needs of the students. Secondly, the creativity of the students will limit them because of its approach to memorize. Lastly, it limits the engagement of the students since I mentioned the information was given by the teacher himself without students chance to express their insightful ideas abt the discussion.

While didactic pedagogy can be an effective tool in certain educational contexts, its appropriateness depends largely on the subject matter, the educational goals, and the needs of the students.
