Circular Economy–Based Waste Management for Climate Change Mitigation
Abstract
Waste management represents a global challenge that necessitates sustainable and integrated solutions. This study investigates the relationship between circular economy–based waste management and the achievement of Indonesia’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030, with a focus on waste banks as a community-based initiative. Data was collected through a literature review and analyzed using NVivo 12 software. The findings indicate that 78% of the data emphasized the application of circular economy principles, while 65% related to SDG targets, reflecting a strong level of awareness of sustainability issues. However, only 40% addressed climate change mitigation, highlighting a limited integration of climate considerations within current waste management practices. Waste banks have demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing community participation, creating employment opportunities, and supporting the local economy. Nevertheless, progress remains constrained by incomplete regulatory and policy frameworks. The study recommends more intensive public education and enhanced collaboration among government, the private sector, and communities to better integrate climate change mitigation into waste management strategies.
