Conservation of Sustainable Ecotourism on the Island of Siqui ...
Abstract
This study serves as a basis for future training programs aimed at promoting sustainable eco-ecotourism on the Philippine Island of Siquijor. It is based on the philosophy of Sustainable Tourism and Human Capital Development, with the goal of potentially creating a more sustainable livelihood for the citizens of Siquijor Islands. The study employed a descriptive-correlational technique to identify the characteristics that could potentially assist them in advertising the island, as well as the perceived training programs of its people to attain sustainable ecotourism. The findings of this study reveal that all respondents from the island of Siquijor favor sustainable tourism and acknowledge that more development is needed to achieve this in their area. Computer support was identified as one of the respondents’ weakest skills, which can be improved with the training to be implemented in the area. Planning, Leadership/Teamwork, Time Management, and Adaptability show the strongest correlation with the factors analyzed. Specific training programs that were identified by the citizens in the area along with the identified skill set can be used in future training to achieve sustainable tourism in the area.
