Enhancing Legal Education by Integrating Artificial Intellige ...
Abstract
In legal education, law teachers may view artificial intelligence (AI) tools negatively. This skepticism largely stems from the concern that law students would often copy and paste texts found using AI tools such as ChatGPT, potentially undermining original thought and learning. In view of this, some law teachers prefer to use innovative teaching and learning strategies to prevent students from using ChatGPT and AI tools. However, generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are here to stay, and so avoiding their use might soon be viewed as imprudent and not forward-thinking. This article argues that AI should be adopted and integrated into legal education. The adoption of AI tools would equip future law professionals with advanced research and writing skills that are necessary in an ever-evolving digital landscape. Thus, instead of avoiding its usage, AI tools such as ChatGPT should be utilized in legal education as a teaching tool to upskill law students’ legal research and writing in a responsible and ethical manner. This qualitative study, using content analysis, explores methods law teachers could apply while utilizing AI tools as an aid to teaching. Ultimately, the study maintains that embracing AI in legal education is essential to develop a new generation of lawyers who could use technology proficiently and ethically.
