Abstract

This special issue emerges from the need to study contemporary gender representations in intermedial narratives (literature, e-literature, art, cinema, the media and social media). A series of gender seminars and conferences exploring gender within intermediality were organized by SIIM (Studies on Intermediality and Intercultural Mediation) research group within Aglaya Project at the Complutense University of Madrid from 2022 to 2024 with the aim of sharing innovative research findings on gender and intermediality. Following these seminars and conferences, this special issue of The International Journal of Critical Cultural Studies shows the results of scholars from different countries (China, Ireland, Serbia, Spain, and The United Arab Emirates) that have studied gender issues (women empowerment, women traditional roles, motherhood, romantic passion, gender representations, the legalization of divorce and contraception or the decriminalization of homosexuality, etc.) in a wide range of fields: literary studies, art and film studies, digital studies, electronic literary works by women authors, social media, classical myths, Afro American literature, Ecofeminism and civil rights among others.
