Assessment for Learning MOOC’s Updates
Knowledge vs. Intelligence by CEO/President - Retired
Knowledge as the Basis
In its most basic form, knowledge serves as a basis. The collection of knowledge, abilities, and experiences is what provides intelligence with a starting point. Formal education, independent study, or common wisdom are all sources of knowledge. Although it gives intelligence life, insufficient knowledge can result in, poor judgment, or understanding gaps. Although education can demonstrate a person's capacity for learning, real intelligence only becomes apparent when that knowledge is put to use in practical settings.
Intelligence as the Application
Intelligence is the ability to put knowledge into action. It shows itself in problem-solving, meaningful communication, sound decision-making, strategic thinking, and creative expression. For instance, a person may be excellent at memorizing information, but intelligence is reflected in how they use that information—whether to innovate, adapt, or make thoughtful choices.
As for my understanding in intelligence testing is that it is program or design to know the cognitive skill such as the persons way of reasoning, the ability to solve a given problem, the way of his abstract thinking goes. These properties engage on evaluating a person’s capability to gain knowledge in the future, in behalf of the knowledge the person has now.
In the opposite way, knowledge testing focus on what an individual has already learned, things he already knew, such as formulas in math, events that happened in the past or historical event.
Identifying the core strength and weakness that informs a unique instruction and supports which was in used mostly in guidance counseling, early education and diagnosing learning difficulties is intelligence test, making it the opposite of the knowledge test because it is suited in a specific curriculum, certification requirement and academic assessment.
When it is used inappropriately it can lead to serious misjudgment, such as if the knowledge test, it can create inequities by means of assuming prior exposure to content or not acknowledging the different pace in learning. As for Intelligence test, it can lead to bias judgements about someone’s potential in education aspect or what future success really mean.
