Assessment for Learning MOOC’s Updates
Title: Alternative Assessment: Project-Based Learning
An alternative form of assessment that I find effective is project-based learning (PBL). Instead of relying on standardized tests, students demonstrate understanding by creating a product, presentation, or report based on real-world problems. This type of assessment assumes that learning is best shown through application and creativity rather than memorization.
The advantage of PBL is that it promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning. It allows students with different learning styles to showcase their strengths. However, one challenge is that it can be subjective and time-consuming to assess, especially without clear rubrics. Overall, PBL offers a more holistic way to evaluate understanding and encourages learners to connect classroom lessons to real-life experiences.
