Abstract

In the past decade, the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) and ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) has gained significant attention as a holistic approach to addressing global challenges such as climate change, energy crises, and environmental degradation. This study employs a bibliometric analysis to map the evolution of STEAM-ESD research from 2014 to 2024, leveraging data from the Scopus database. Utilizing tools such as bibliometrix and Biblioshiny, this study examines trends in publication growth, thematic focus, co-authorship networks, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic relevance. The analysis reveals a steady annual growth rate of 17.58%, driven by the global emphasis on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key findings indicate that dominant themes include sustainability, education, and teaching, highlighting the central role of STEAM-ESD in fostering critical and creative thinking among students. However, emerging topics such as artificial intelligence, innovation, and decision-making remain under-explored, presenting opportunities for future research. The co-authorship network reveals a concentration of collaboration among researchers in developed countries, with limited representation from developing nations. Despite the advances, the study identifies a notable gap in the development of localized curricula and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to enhance STEAM-ESD learning experiences. This bibliometrics review underscores the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, the adoption of advanced educational technologies, and the contextualization of research to maximize the impact of STEAM-ESD in achieving SDGs. The findings provide a comprehensive roadmap for researchers, educators, and policymakers to advance the field and address the pressing challenges of the twenty-first century.
