Peer Reviewed Update #1: New Learning: Principles and Patterns of Pedagogy
What struck me most in this video is realizing that the three pedagogical modelssuch as didactic, authentic, and transformative actually coexist today. I used to think of them as stages that replaced one another, but the idea that they can overlap in the same school or even the same class really made me see how flexible teaching has to be.
It also got me thinking about “new learning” as being reflexive and transformative. It’s not about throwing away older methods but choosing what works best depending on the learners, the context, and the goal. That balance between tradition and innovation feels like both a challenge and an opportunity for us as teachers.
Great point about the coexistence of didactic, authentic, and transformative models! It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking pedagogy is a linear progression, but recognizing their overlap highlights the need for adaptable teaching. Your insight on 'new learning' as reflexive and transformative really resonates – it's about thoughtfully integrating the best of both traditional and innovative approaches to meet the diverse needs of our learners. Definitely a challenge, but also an exciting opportunity to shape more effective learning experiences.
