New Learning MOOC’s Updates

Transformative Methods in the New Educational Era

Why is there  a need for teachers to shift from didactic to transformative pedagogy? While didactic pedagogy is still helpful in some  areas, the new generation learners today must be given a teaching style that spice up with their native way of learning. Come to think of this, their abilitiy to learn is far different and fundamentally changed . Their attention span, early exposure of digital world, length of content retention and their interest must all be consider and paid attention to. Tranformative Pedagody can completely overcome all this contrain and can reform the traditional teaching process. Teachers must do more than just to transfer knowledge. They must  seek change our student's worldwide and personal identity through a rigorous ciritical self reflection and engagement with new ideas. This pedagogy uses problem-based learning to challenge students, allowing  Filipino learners to present innovative and creative solutions. It forces them to analyze information, evaluate different perspectives, and develop their own reasoned arguments that directly foster critical thinking skills. With collaborative activity, they can establish meaningful dialogue and create a holistic environment were all learners are being valued.

During the video presentation  on the evolution of pedagogy, the tranformative methods catches more my attention and interest. It has all the necessary and relevant elements that posibly shape our future generation. Transformative pedagogy encourages students to work together, engage in meaningful dialogue, and reflect on their learning. This helps them develop crucial social-emotional skills, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility. The goal is to create not just knowledgeable individuals but also active and engaged citizens.

Example:

*Learner-centered and inquiry-driven

*Emphasis on cirtical thinking and real-worl application

*Integration of Technology and Digital Fluency

*Culturally responsive and inclusive practice

* Collaboration, reflection and social responsibility

This totally educate and empower our learners to become change-makers in their communities and professions. The importance of a transformative paradigm is accentuated in the Framing the Future 2030 initiative of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH, 2023), which includes a major domain focused on transformative education. UNESCO also endorses transformative education as critical for motivating and empowering learners to make informed decisions and take action on the individual, community, and global levels (UNESCO, 2023). The ultimate goal is to translate knowledge into meaningful action. This is often achieved through project-based learning, community engagement, and service-learning initiatives. For example, public health students might not just study health disparities; they might work with a local community to develop and implement a health promotion program. This kind of hands-on experience solidifies learning and builds confidence.

Conclusion:
The evolution of education necessitates a fundamental shift from traditional didactic pedagogy to a more dynamic transformative pedagogy. While didactic methods have a place, they fail to address the complex needs and learning styles of today's digital-native students, whose attention spans, information retention, and interests have been fundamentally altered by early exposure to technology. Transformative pedagogy overcomes these challenges by moving beyond simple knowledge transfer to actively engaging students in critical thinking, self-reflection, and problem-solving. By integrating key elements such as real-world applications, technology, and culturally responsive practices, transformative pedagogy not only meets the current needs of Filipino learners but also aligns with global educational initiatives, such as those endorsed by UNESCO and the ASPPH. Ultimately, this shift is not just about adopting a new teaching style; it's about preparing students to be active and engaged participants in a rapidly changing world.
