The social mind refers to how an individual thoughts, feelings, and cognitive processes are deeply intertwined with social contexts and interactions. Thinking "inside your head' is social thinking because even internal mental processes are influenced by social relationships, cultural norms, and interactions with others. Community and culture shape learning by providing shared values, practices, and social environments that support the acquisitaion and transmission of knowlegde.
An example of learning that exercises the social mind is collaborative group work in a classroom, where students share ideas, negotiate meanings, and co-construct knowledge. This expands learning beyond the individual by incorporating diverse perspectives and social interactions, fostering deeper understanding.
Collective intelligence is the enhance problem-solving and knowledge-building capcity that emerged when groups collaborate effectively, leveraging diverse expertise and decentralized decision-making. Collaborative learning benifits include improved problem-solving skills, increased social interactions, acceptance of diversity, and motivation through shared goals.
