Transformation of Education Through Mobile Learning And Ubiquitous Learning
Ubiquitous learning, also known as u-learning is a technology based approach in the field of Education making learning easier to access anytime, anywhere. In recent years, education has undergone significant changes by recieving assistence from digital technologies such as mobile learning, cloud computing,Learning Management System. These digital technologies pave the pathway to u-learning that has transformed traditional learning into self-paced, personalised, interactive, flexible process. U-learning is based on ubiquitous technology (a new trend of information and communication technologies) and is considered to be revolutionary which has the potentiality to revolutionise education by introducing flexible, continuous and life-long learning and removing many physical contraints of traditional learning.
It is an innovative way to recieve knowledge and is adapted to learner's need. Further, it is personalise, flexible and unlike the traditional method of learning where acquisition of knowledge is only possible being physically present in the four walls of a classroom.
U-learning is a new learning paradigm and is an expansion of previous learning paradigms. The major paradigm includes e-learning, m-learning and u-learning where shifts can be observed from conventional learning to electronic-learning then from electronic learning to mobile-learning and from mobile-learning to ubiquitous learning.
Example: Learning Management System(Google Classroom)
- Students get enrolled and have access to the learning materials at anytime, anywhere.
- They are provided with recorded lessons which are saved.
- Assignments (Formative), quiz are held
- Instant feedbacks after completion of the assignment/quiz.
- Students are updated with their learning progress
Mobile learning in simple words is a way, where students can access learning through mobile devices. It allows a student to learn at his/her/other own pace and is highly flexible. Learners can have access to learning resources through digital tools which are easy to carry and are movable. One of the most important element of mobile-learning is it focuses on mobility of the learner, when and where they want to access learning materials.
M-learning includes portable devices like computers, tablets, smartphones which enhanced learning technologically. It provides instant feedback, makes learning possible without physical textbooks, instant access to information, real time interaction, personalised learning, anytime and anywgere, continuous learning.
Example: Cousera
- Students find infinite courses and can attend sessions by seating in the house
- Recorded lessons can be viewd according to the student's need.
- Assignments and quizzes are held. Materials can be downloaded
- Students can track their progress, instant feedback
- After completion, certificates are provided.
Together, both mobile learning and ubiquitous learning transformed Education into flexible, seamless, easily accessible, continuous, life-long learning process.
