Project Update Week 2
I'm still outlining my project. When creating my outline I began with the question, what are restorative practices? Restorative practices are a social science built on maintaining and repairing relationships. It is still a relatively new practice and many people don't have a clear understanding of it. It's often mistaken as something that absolves a party of any wrongdoing or responsibility when impacting a community in a harmful way when it in fact centers the responsible party and forces them to repair the harm. The end goal in restorative justice is to build a community that considers each others role and how choices can have an impact on each other. When researching restorative practices, I found that there is a signficant amount of insufficient training related to the practice in schools, leading to frustration surrounding the practice. This leads to not implementing the practice with fidelity, which, in the end, affects the recipient of the practice.
Ways to counter this include proper training that clarifies the practice universally. A method, similar to CHAMPS training, may even need to be created.
